Want to be your own boss? A few questions can certainly come to mind like; where do I start, how do I start, and what do I need to get things going? We've rounded up a few tips from our personal experience to help you kick start your journey.

You will want to consider the idea of solely running your company or having a business partner who can complement your weakness, vice versa. There are multiple factors you can consider prior to making this decision. We’ve come up with a list of the basics for you.

Basic Registries

• License Registration

• Sole Proprietor or Incorporation

• Website Domain

• Website Host

• E-mail Hosting

• Trademark Licensing

Finances & Investing

• Solely Financing the Company or an even 50/50

• Accounting (expenses/income tracking)

Marketing

• Social Media (It’s important to come up & create from your own content)

• Blogging (optional)

• Directing videos and photoshoots for ads and campaigns

Creative Area

• Product Development & Creation

Misc.

• Errands such as Sourcing, research, hiring, creating invoices for contract hiring, dealing with suppliers or third party companies (shipping)

There are a lot more to keep in mind. Here at DREAMS INTO REALITY we have ventured into a 50/50 partnership that has allowed us to tackle these tasks all the while keeping our day jobs. Below are a few tips on how we've accomplished such tasks.

1. TO DO LIST We map out our major "to dos" at the beginning of each week. As business partners we plan out whose talents and strengths can bring the best outcome of each item on our list. A few major to do examples are; designing, registries, photo shoots etc.

2. WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN We've never understood the importance of writing out a business plan until we started LUXX Intimates, having a business plan allows you to map out you year end goal. You can definitely map out your five year plan here as well. Unless you are seeking financial investments from investors a basic business plan will do for the meantime to help you stay on track.

3. KEEPING TRACK OF FINANCES We've created a Excel spreadsheet to help us stay on top of our expenses. Try updating your spreadsheet as frequently as possible & photocopy your receipts as receipts tend to fade in print & won't be useful a year from the day of your purchase.

4. PURCHASING Google is your best friend when you're searching materials. Depending on what your business is offering your supplies can be found either in stores near you or online.

5. TECHNOLOGY NECESSITIES It’s 2018 and we all know technology is a major factor in our every day lives. Having access to a computer will SAVE you. Laptops are key as they are mobile and convenient for meetings. Consider investing in a computer if you don't already have one.

6. STAY ON TRACK Having a reminder set off on your calendar 30min prior to your due task or at the time off can really help you, it's easy to forget the smaller details. This can be an optional factor but having a physical hard copy of a day planner really helps. It can be used as a notebook to jot down quick notes that our devices can make complicated, from our experience it was difficult to doodle quick designs of our products and measurements alongside.

Now these are just tips and tricks that will be beneficial towards your journey. There will be bumps down the road but riding through these complications will end with rewards and success. You got this, good luck!
